James Morrison practices in the area of federal and state taxation of individuals, corporations, trusts, estates, not-for-profit organizations and employee benefit plans (EBP). He also assists clients with estate, gift and wealth transfer planning, including analyzing the estate’s liquidity and providing a comprehensive review of in force life insurance policies.
His not-for-profit experience includes assisting multi-million-dollar private foundations, large private schools and universities, health care providers and various other type of not-for-profit entities.
As a member of Decosimo’s EBP Team, James has over 30 years experience in tax filings for EBPs and consults in plan design. He regularly attends the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) Conference on Employee Benefit Plans.
A large portion of his practice is representing and assisting clients in examinations conducted by the Internal Revenue Service and state taxing authorities. He has extensive experience in assisting a wide variety of clients in all levels of the examination and appeals process.
James is a member of the AICPA, the Tennessee Society of Certified Public Accountants (TSCPA), is a former president of the Chattanooga Tax Practitioners, and currently serves on the board of the Estate Planning Council of Chattanooga.
He served as the treasurer of the Salvation Army-Chattanooga area command for several years and currently serves on the Family Stores advisory board. James is an active member of Tyner United Methodist Church.
He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and graduated with honors from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville.
