Vic Merkel is the Tax Director for Decosimo’s Atlanta office. He has more than 19 years of experience in both public accounting and private industry. Vic has specialized experience in the retail industry, the multi-state tax planning arena, tax reporting for financial statement purposes, tax incentives, transactional tax planning and compliance and corporate tax department outsourcing. Vic also has manufacturing, real estate, and for-profit healthcare industry experience. His experience also includes the tax planning and due diligence components of the merger and acquisition process.

Prior to joining Decosimo, Vic served as the tax director for six years for a publicly traded restaurant chain with over 330 locations in 23 states. He has also served as a senior manager with an international accounting firm where he ultimately served as the state & local tax services coordinator for the Charlotte, North Carolina and Greenville, South Carolina markets.

Vic obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration (Accounting) and his Master of Accounting degree (Tax) from Auburn University in 1989 and 1990 respectively. Vic is licensed to practice as a CPA in the states of Alabama and Georgia.

He is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants (GSCPA), and has previously served as a board member for both civic and corporate purposes.
