Principal
Mickey Ison is a Principal in Decosimo's Memphis office. He received his certificate to practice in 1963 and holds CPA certificates in Tennessee, Arkansas and Mississippi. He served as a part-time accounting professor at the University of Memphis for 25 years. He is a frequent lecturer on various accounting, tax, financial, and legal-related topics. He is a quarterly seminar speaker for SCORE on accounting and tax matters for new business entrepreneurs.
He has extensive experience with clients in his capacity as partner-in-charge of audit, tax, and management advisory services for profit and not-for-profit organizations. He has done extensive work in the area of business valuation and expert witness testimony. He is a member of the Institute of Business Appraisers.
He is also a member of the Memphis Investor's Group, a real estate educational organization, and serves many clients who are real estate investors. He served three years as a member of the board of the Tennessee State Board of Accountancy, which regulates the issuance of financial reports and the practice of public accountancy, including licensure and registration of CPAs in Tennessee.
He is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, past president of the Memphis Chapters of both the Tennessee Society of CPAs and the Institute of Management Accountants. He serves on the Council of the Tennessee Society of CPAs where he has previously served as Vice President, Chairman of the Relations with Bar Association Committee and Chairman of the Management of an Accounting Practice Committee.
Mr. Ison is past president of the Board of Trustees of the University of Memphis Foundation. He is also a past president and member of the board of directors of the University of Memphis Society, Inc. He is a past president of both the Kiwanis Club of Memphis and the Kiwanis Club of East Memphis. He is a charter member of and financial advisor to United Cerebral Palsy of the Mid-South, Inc.
He is a recipient of the Public Service Award presented by the Tennessee Society of CPAs. He was also chosen as Accountant Advocate for Tennessee by the Small Business Administration.
