As the Executive Director of the ICRC for the last 29 years we have been audited by the State of Ohio as required by law. This year we had the opportunity to have our audit performed by a private firm called Decosimo. They were awarded this project by a bidding process that included input by the State of Ohio Auditor's office and myself. I have to say that from the moment we met with representatives of Decosimo, I was impressed by their approach to our audit.
Given the fact hat this company had never audited our books, I, of course, was apprehensive about the way in which the audit would proceed. Would it take longer than expected? Would we be able to satisfy their request for information? Would the audit disrupt our business during the whole process? The minute the audit started onsite till the final PowerPoint presentation was delivered to our Board of Directors, I have been so pleased with every aspect of the process. Mr. Chris Flaig and [other Decosimo personnel] conducted themselves in such a professional and helpful manner that we are now implementing many of their recommendations to help our non-profit organization be financially viable in the future.
One of the highlights was our business operations were not interrupted at all because there were minimal amount of days spent on location. Once we met the document requests, a good portion of the audit was performed offsite. Secondly, after the audit was performed they came out to our Board meeting and explained the audit in detail to our Board members in a manner that was easily understood by everyone. Their PowerPoint demonstrated many areas of our operation that opened our eyes as to how we could improve our record keeping and continue to be a financially secure organization. We have implemented many positive changes they suggested and will continue to do so. Most importantly we were treated so professionally. Even after the audit was completed we met with the Decosimo staff to talk about them doing more work for our organization.
In these financial times when every business is looking to be more efficient and sustainable into the future I believe getting intelligent, good solid financial advice from a company like Decosimo is extremely beneficial. I would highly recommend them and look forward to working with them in the near future on our next annual audit. |
