1971: Firm Founded in Chattanooga, Tennessee On September 1, 1971, co-founders Joe Decosimo, Marion Fryar and Jerry Adams open Joseph Decosimo and Company as a local accounting firm in Chattanooga, Tennessee. Now located just a block away in the Tallan Financial Center, Decosimo’s first home was the Gold Building on the corner of MLK Boulevard and Pine Street in Downtown Chattanooga.
1980: Decosimo Establishes First Dalton Office The Firm establishes its first Dalton, Georgia office to serve clients in North Georgia.
1985: Cincinnati Office Opens The Firm expands into the Cincinnati, Ohio market to better serve the needs of clients in the Ohio Valley and Midwestern region of the United States.
1988: Merger Expands Dalton Office Decosimo merges its growing Dalton practice with that of local practitioner Charles Hendry in Dalton, Georgia, operating as Hendry & Decosimo for several years. Today, the Dalton office is the largest CPA practice in North Georgia and serves a wide range of industries including textiles, manufacturing, and real estate.
1990: Atlanta Office Opens The Atlanta office of Decosimo forms to better serve its clients in the Atlanta area.
1997: Decosimo Establishes Healthcare Practice With the addition of former hospital CFO Ken Conner in the Chattanooga office, Decosimo establishes a healthcare practice, initially known as Conner Healthcare, to provide healthcare consulting and transaction services. Today, the Decosimo healthcare practice provides a full range of audit, tax and valuation services in addition to consulting, litigation support and transaction services.
2003: Merger Expands Chattanooga Office and Litigation Support/Valuation Services Decosimo merges in the local Chattanooga firm Costello, Strain and Company. The merger expands Decosimo’s litigation support and valuation services, which are now offerings of the Decosimo Advisory Services division.
2003: Grand Cayman Office Opens To serve the offshore interests of its clients, Decosimo opens an office in Georgetown, Grand Cayman. The practice now operates as Moore Stephens Decosimo Cayman Limited.
2004: Merger Creates Memphis Office The Firm merges in the practice of Bean & Ison in Memphis, Tennessee and operates as Ison & Decosimo for several years.
2005: Decosimo Joins Moore Stephens International Limited The Firm joins the North America division of Moore Stephens International Limited, an association of more than 300 independent member firms, to expand its access to resources and professionals on an international scale.
2006: Knoxville Office Opens After Merger The Firm merges in the healthcare consulting practice of FIS Associates in Knoxville, Tennessee. The merger adds significant capabilities to the Firm’s work with physician practices. Today, the Knoxville office offers a full range of assurance, tax and consulting services to a diverse client base, but maintains its initial physician services.
2006: Decosimo Establishes Recruiting and Staffing Division Decosimo establishes Decosimo Recruiting, LLC to offer the specialized recruitment and placement of financial and accounting professionals on a permanent, temp or temp-to-hire basis. Today, the Firm's professional recruiting service conducts strategic searches working closely with financial, accounting and management candidates and employers in virtually every industry across the Southeast to identify hiring opportunities that fit the needs of both parties.
2007: Nashville Office Opens The opening of the Nashville office positions Decosimo in each of Tennessee’s four largest cities.
2008: Members of Decosimo Form Separate Investment Banking Entity Decosimo Corporate Finance, LLC (DCF), member FINRA/SIPC, was formed to provide sell-side and buy-side advisory services, debt and equity capital sourcing, and fairness opinions to businesses and their owners across the United States.
2008: Merger Creates Entertainment Practice in Nashville Office The Vaden Group led by Mike Vaden merges with the Firm’s new Nashville office creating Decosimo/Vaden, a specialized entertainment services practice focused on the unique needs of Nashville’s music industry.
2010: Huntsville Office Opens Decosimo expands into Alabama with the opening of a Huntsville office offering assurance and tax services in North Alabama.
2011: Decosimo Celebrates 40 Years Now a regional firm with offices in 9 markets and nearly 300 professionals and staff, Decosimo serves clients in many industries and with operations in the U.S. and across the globe.
