CHATTANOOGA, TN (July 14, 2009) –D. Michael Costello, ASA, CPA•ABV•CFF, CFE, a principal of Joseph Decosimo and Company, PLLC (Decosimo) and a member of Decosimo Corporate Finance, LLC, was recently accepted as an Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA) by the American Society of Appraisers.
To earn the ASA designation, candidates must have a minimum of five years appraisal experience, successfully complete a personal interview and pass a written examination. Samples of the candidate’s appraisal reports are also reviewed by the International Board of Governors representing the American Society of Appraisers. All professionals with the ASA designation are required to submit evidence of continuing professional education and must observe the Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice (USPAP).
Mr. Costello practices with Decosimo Advisory Services, the firm’s division responsible for business valuation, litigation support and transaction advisory services. His 27 years of experience includes extensive consulting work and testimony in tax, accounting, financial, economic and business issues of commercial litigation, with emphasis on business valuation, economic damage and forensic accounting issues. Before merging with Decosimo in 2003, Mr. Costello was Managing Director of a Chattanooga CPA firm that bore his name for approximately 20 years.
Decosimo Corporate Finance, LLC, member FINRA/SIPC, provides businesses and their owners with sell-side advisory and arrangement of debt and equity financing.
In addition to earning the ASA designation, Mr. Costello is a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and has earned the Accredited in Business Valuation (ABV) and Certified in Financial Forensics (CFF) designations from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), a designation awarded by the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners.
Mr. Costello earned Bachelor of Science in Business Administration and Master of Accountancy degrees from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga.
